Face to Face 3 Portrait Show

A fun, community-oriented, open portrait show!

Now in its third year, Face to Face continues our annual exploration of portraiture in all its forms. Open to artists working in any medium—painting, drawing, handmade prints, collage, clay, mixed media, or small sculpture—this exhibition invites both traditional and experimental approaches to capturing the human face. Mounted in September as part of Ontario Culture Days, Face to Face 3 offers a unique opportunity to share your perspective and explore the meeting of two stories: your own and your subjects.

Fish Tales Crafts on The River/Artists Alley/Taste of 1000 Islands

Crafts on the River features local artisans, music and performances. This year we will feature the Artists Alley showcasing the work of the members of Gananoque Arts Network and The Taste of 1000 Islands, featuring local food and treats. Musical guests Head Over Heels will be performing as well as a surprise dance performance.

Artists Alley - Susan Halle

Susan Halle will be sharing her paintings, prints and works on paper.  Susan is a former art director, graphic designer and fabric upcycler. Originally from Montreal, she has settled in the lovely town of Gananoque and focuses on teaching yoga, building community and making art.

Fish Tales- Saturday Night Concert

Joel Stone comes alive for one last blast of the summer with an exciting concert featuring our local bands Lost Channel, Link Traynor and The Russells

Lost Channel is Mike Bishop, Matty Brown and Pete Mitchell. Formed in 2018 and inspired by life in the 1000 Islands, they play, write and arrange musical ideas of their past and the present.

Link Traynor is a four-piece band made up of well-seasoned local musicians with a long list of credits to their names. Norbert Lepage, a bilingual award-winning singer-songwriter, has been playing the local pubs for the past 25 years.  Kevin Head, well-known local singer-songwriter, guitar slinger and vocalist. Half of the fantastic duo Head Over Heels, Kevin brings his passion for the music to every song he plays. Bassist Scott Dwyre, has been a musical force in the Gananoque area for the last 30 years, playing with various local bands. Local drumming legend Sandy Mackenzie, sets the tone and makes sure everyone is tight and on time. 

Together, this exceptional group of musicians have come together to form Link Traynor. Playing a mix of original, bilingual songs and a varied list of covers.  

The Russells are husband and wife duo Steve and Jayne Russell. They play a wide range of original and covered artists, spanning the gamut from international superstars to lesser known local favourites.

This year, Gan Arts Fest will be celebrating life on the river with a weekend of music, magic and a large scale puppet parade on the waterfront at Joel Stone park. We are excited to bring Toronto artist Catherine Moeller and her fantastic puppets to town and engage our community in the weekend events. Concerts, Indigenous storyteller and musician David Maracle, an art show and sale and a puppet parade like no other!

David Maracle Indigenous Story Telling and Musical Performance

David R. Maracle, Bear Clan, Tehanenia’kwè:tarons – (Cutter of the Stone) has been crafting his artistry since 1985, from his home community of Kenhtè:ke Kanyen’kehá:ka-Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory. Through his magnificent prize-winning stone sculptures, musical compilations and all aspects of his entrepreneurial ventures as a business owner on his Indigenous Territory, David brings to life the ancestral teachings of the Haudenosaunee People.

David’s originals in stone sculptures are celebrated worldwide, with many corporations and private collectors owning his work, including the estate of the late Nelson Mandela, the Emperor of Japan, Dan Aykroyd and Loretta Lynn.

In addition to being a world-renowned sculptor of stone, David is also an international award-winning multi-instrumentalist, musician, poet, composer and producer who has released over 18 musical compilations and scores for various award-winning documentaries during his multifaceted career. To date, David has received two Gold Records from the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for his world fusion ambient melodies of the Iroquoian Love Flute and his personal collection of rare world instruments.

We are honored that he will be sharing his stories and unique music on our stage at Joel Stone Park.

Cliff Edwards is a singer/songwriter/ performer and producer originally from Montreal . As former member of the band THE BELLS, he achieved International success with the million-selling hit song STAY AWHILE. He had recorded 5 albums with them as well as 4 albums he has recorded as a solo artist . He is accompanied by two very talented musicians Ken Hall on keyboards and vocal and Dan Kasaboski on guitar and vocal. Currently Cliff has recorded a CD UNDERCURRENT of original material. Catch his easy-listening concert !

Catherine Moeller's "Fish Tales: The Parade"

12:00-4:00pm

Catherine Moeller will design and build puppets and parade elements—including banners, flags, and costumes—as part of a collaborative community initiative. Moeller will engage local residents in workshops leading up to the outdoor fall event, with the parade taking place along the town’s historic main street. The parade’s theme, urban wildlife, raises awareness of animals that once lived in the area and those that remain or have returned.
