Between Friends/Entres Amis: 50 Years Along the Border | Photo Exhibit Opening
In 1976, Canada gifted the United States a book by author/photographer Lorraine Monk called Between Friends/Entre Amis to help mark the American Bicentennial. Now, 50 years later, we continue reflect on our border relationship here in the Thousand Islands with a new exhibit.
Between Friends/Entres Amis: 50 Years Along the Border will feature photographs of people and places of Gananoque and the Thousand Islands from the 1970s to today. It will celebrate our shared history, explore how we have changed, and offer a venue to capture stories based on our own unique experiences.
Join us for our opening with University of Alberta's Rob Shields, and Susan Smith, author of The First Summer People and editor of Thousand Islands Life.

Come discover the shared stories that connect this unique region across generations. The exhibit runs until November 6, 2026.
This exhibit is part of a partnership between the Gananoque Public Library and the University of Alberta.
Please share your photos of the people and places of Gananoque and the Thousand Islands from the 1970s to today, we would love to add them to the exhibit! Just bring them into the Library by September 1st (and let us know if you want them returned).
